Ukrainian leaders to visit Akron February 23rd and examine economic development practices
Ten Ukrainian leaders participating in the U.S. Agency for International Development (US AID) – Community Connections program will spend February 16 – March 9, 2011 in Ohio examining urban planning and development practices in the United States. The group will visit Columbus and Youngstown as well as Akron. The Columbus International Program serves as the host organization for the delegation. The participants in this program are Ukrainian leaders in the urban planning and development sector of the economy.
The group will spend the day in Akron, visiting with various public officials at the Better Business Bureau of Akron. They will meet with Mr. Jason Segedy, AMATS’ Director; Mr. Dave Lieberth, Deputy Mayor, City of Akron; Mr. John Moore, Planning Director, City of Akron; Mr. Sam DeShazior, Deputy Planning Director, City of Akron; Mr. Dan Moulthrop, The Curator of Conversation, The Civic Commons; and Mr. Michael Lyons, Mayor, Village of Richfield. The group will focus on the transformation of the city and issues with urban sprawl in greater Akron.

On the Horizon – Electric Vehicles!
Electric vehicles are coming, but will Northeast Ohio be ready for them? AMATS, together with The University of Akron, the city of Akron and FirstEnergy Corp., is a key player in the Electric Vehicle Initiative. The initiative is laying the groundwork for a regional electric-vehicle support infrastructure with its origins in the Greater Akron area.
